6 Lakh Bank Employees to Participate in One-Day Strike
6 lakh bank employees all over the country are participating in a day-long strike to put pressure on the Government to accept their multiple demands. The strike will affect the millions of account holders, including pensioners.
The Central Government had decided to appoint an officer of the private sector as the chief of a public sector bank. The Reserve Bank of India has also issued licenses to start ‘payment banks.’ In order to express their opposition to these decisions, the public sector bank employees associations have decided to participate in the strike.
The government should not indulge in actions that would defeat the very purpose of the public sector banks, or act in favour of the industrialists and corporate sectors. The Government must act on these issues and implement the demands of the bank employees.
Employees of the public sector banks and of insurance companies that are not in the life insurance segment are going to conduct a nationwide strike tomorrow (September 2) against the centre’s policies. Nationalized banks and private insurance companies shall remain closed tomorrow.
